South Boston, affectionately known as ‘Southie’ not only across the city but the entire country, is perhaps Boston’s most storied neighbourhood. With a strong Irish-American heritage, the area was immortalised in movies such as Good Will Hunting, The Departed and Gone Baby Gone.
Castle Island is a key part of Southie’s identity. Located on Boston Harbour, it is actually a peninsula since it was connected to the mainland by a short piece of land in the 1920’s. The area is the home of Fort Independence, a former defensive edifice from the Revolutionary War, and features an array of picnic spots, hiking trails and a small beach.
Southie is synonymous with the Red Sox. A Boston institution since 1912, Fenway Park is the oldest ballpark in the MLB and is of course the home of Boston Red Sox. For locals, following the Red Sox is something akin to a spiritual pursuit and Fenway is the shrine. Although small in capacity, the stadium makes up for its small size with bags of ambience.
Throughout the area, from Telegraph Hill to Fort Point, Floom’s South Boston flower delivery covers this historic area in its entirety.
