As one of the most iconic neighbourhood’s in the country, if not the world, San Francisco’s Chinatown district is vibrant, eclectic and brimming with history. Covering more than 24 blocks, it is a sprawling area that’s an integral part of the city’s modern identity.
Dragon’s Gate marks the official entry point into Chinatown and it remains one of the city’s most photographed locations. Beyond the gate lies Chinatown itself, a maze of authentic eateries, bars and apothecaries.
Just adjacent to the gate is Union Square, a huge plaza and adjoining neighbourhood that’s resplendent with shopping, dining and other entertainment options in the centre of San Francisco.
The Chinese Historical Society of America Museum is located in Chinatown and remains a source of immense pride for the district’s Chinese population. With exhibits on the history of Chinese people in the United States and San Francisco, it is a poignant and informative look at Chinese culture in America.
