Flower of the Month |Hydrangea

Hydrangeas are one of those special flowers that can really add bombast to any arrangement. Despite being slightly tricky to cart home on a 5am bus from the flower market, their distinctive large blooms are truly majestic.

Despite their stature, hydrangeas can channel a number of different moods. Their pom-pom-like shape - at times almost cuddly - can add a playful touch to a bouquet, especially if you’re lucky enough to find a boldly-coloured variation on the usually delicate white petals.

And those petals really are something else. Thought of as a symbol of enlightenment in their native China, it's easy to lose oneself in the dense swirl of the hydrangea head. If you’re wanting to make a statement, without resorting to the tired cliche of roses, you could do a lot worse than to pick these titans of the flower world.
