A private gated community at the end of Coney Island in the borough of Brooklyn, New York City, Sea Gate primarily contains single-family homes. The area was developed into a full neighbourhood in 1892 by Alrick Man. In October 2012, Hurricane Sandy devastated the neighbourhood (and many others), after it was flooded by ocean water and battered by strong winds - destroying many houses. The 'Lindy Park' sea wall was destroyed during the hurricane and left the rest of the island open to serious damage.
