Located in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, Dumbo (short for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is a neighbourhood that used to be known as Gairville. We're just disappointed it wasn't after the film. The area was originally a ferry landing, and was characterized by 19th and 20th century industrial buildings and block streets. In the late 20th century, Dumbo was bought by Two Tress Management, who redeveloped the area into an upmarket residential and creative community - as seen by the art galleries and startups present today.
