Chinatown is a bustling district of central Chicago that’s renowned across both the city and the United States as a diverse, vibrant community filled with quality restaurants, bars and boutiques.
At the heart of Chinatown is the Chinese American Museum of Chicago, a respected cultural centre that seeks to tell the story of the city’s sizeable Chinese community. Opened in 2005, the museum is home to a range of exhibits, collections and research initiatives promoting understanding and appreciate of Chinese culture in Chicago and across the midwest.
The Chinatown Gate marks the official entrance to the district and has itself become something of an attraction, symbolic as it is of the area’s heritage. Designed by Peter Fung and installed in 1975, locals are fiercely proud of the gate and its inscription, which translates as “the world belongs to the commonwealth”.
Throughout the area, from West Cermak Road to West 24th Street, Floom’s Chinatown flower delivery covers the entire community.
