Grown in Japan for centuries, the Satsuki Azalea bonsai is one of the most sought-after varieties available today. One of the top reasons people seek it out is to experience viewing the stunning pink flowers that peek out of green leaves when the tree is allowed to bloom. Unique to other bonsai, Satsuki Azalea blooms a bit later in spring, but the wait is worth it. The blooms start to pop up in May and may last into June. These trees can be styled to meet your every desire to create a gorgeous presentation at any time of year. This bonsai is ideal for use outdoors and can produce flowers that reach seven inches in diameter. It has two blossoms at the end of each terminal and fuzzy leaves that spring from aged wood. The best container for this tree is an eight-inch humidity tray.

How to care for your plants

  • Your plant’s pot should have holes in the bottom so it is able to drain water easily.

  • If reusing a pot that had other plants in it, it is recommended you wash the pot, killing any mould or bacteria.

  • Do not over water your plant as the roots will rot.

  • Most plants need to be kept by a good source of natural light.

  • You should fertilise your plant every two months. You can use all purpose fertiliser.

  • Any dead or fallen leaves should be removed to prevent bacteria and mould. Dead branches should also be removed.
