Saltley is an inner-city area of Birmingham, West Midlands. Notable attractions include Saltley windmill at Ralph Street near Alum Rock Road dating back to the eighteenth century. Surprisingly the district has nothing to do with salt, it's name is deeply rural and arises from two Old English words with the ‘salt’ part deriveding from ‘sealuht’, denoting willows.
