Hertford is the historic county town of Hertfordshire, a southern English county located between the famous cities of London and Cambridge.
Panshanger Park is the largest and most impressive of Hertford’s green spaces. Comprising over 1,000 acres of woodlands, wetlands and grasslands, the park was only opened up to the public in 2014 after many years of use as a quarry. Today the area attracts wildlife all year round, with a vast array of wildflowers growing throughout the park. Butterflies are also resplendent in spring and summer, while winter brings with it an influx of migrating ducks who come to escape the freezing temperatures further north.
The Grade I listed Balls Park is a mid-17th century stately home located in Hertford. With extensive grounds that make up the park itself, there are a number of pretty flowers on show here, both native and introduced.
