Not an independent urban district until 1900, Kingsbury was previously part of Wembley until Victorian development necessitated a breakaway. The area, now located in the London Borough of Brent, has undergone a series of significant shifts, including a near complete demographic switch since the Second World War. More than 20% of Kingsbury’s main ward, Fryent, are of Indian origin, and roughly 10% are eastern European residents - a complete change to the pre-war makeup.
The name Kingsbury is derived from ‘The King’s Manor’, and formerly included Queensbury too. We’ll leave you to figure out what the meaning is behind that.
The area does have a claim to fame with the famous artists who have lived in Kingsbury, including Charlie Watts (drummer, The Rolling Stones), and Tony Kanal (bassist, No Doubt), as well as ‘Psycho’ - ex-England international footballer Stuart Pearce.
