The wonderfully named Burnt Oak is a suburb in Edgware, located in the London Borough of Barnet, in the north west of London.
Wondering where the name comes from? Wonder no more. The name was first used in 1754, with the only evidence for its etymology being as you might expect - a field had once contained a burnt oak tree. Pretty good right? Interestingly though, as the settlement grew, it became known as Red Hill, and only became commonly known as Burnt Oak again after the opening of the Burnt Hill tube station.
