Bloom Of The Block

London’s Bloom of the Block are one of the more high-concept floristry studios to join the Floom stable. As they describe their operations: the ‘blooms’ provide their artisans with the most extensive catalogue of colour and texture; the ‘block’ refers to a solid piece of hard material that balances out the lightness of their floristry… The results are, “playful statement flowers, focusing on either colour or form and never perfection.” Those last words belong to Leyla Husseyin, who founded Bloom of the Block back in 2014. After five years as a visual merchandiser and stylist for iconic Chelsea boutique The Conran Shop, Leyla branched out on her own and began freelancing as a florist. “I still am heavily inspired by furniture design – the shoots, the sets – and retail design. That’s what inspired our name and logo,” she explains. “A name that was just airy and delicate wouldn’t suit me, as I love and am inspired by ‘block’ materials just as much. The name refers to love of block materials and block colour. In everything, balance is key!” Fitting then, that Leyla’s favourite flower is the Silver Brunia, not jut because she “loves a grey jumper and grey goes with everything”, but because it was the first stem she saw that truly made her fall in love with floristry. “Never had I seen such grey, architectural qualities in a flower.”
