The area includes the districts of Stratford, Plaistow, Canning Town, Silvertown and Custom House, while the districts of Forest Gate and Upton Park are also in very close proximity. The area is perhaps most renowned for West Ham United F.C., one of English football’s most well-known teams. The Irons, as they nicknamed, played at the Boleyn Ground in Upton Park between 1904 and 2016, before moving to the London Stadium, which hosted the 2012 Olympics. The move was met with mixed views, as council money was used to fund the hosting, as well as losing some of the atmosphere historically associated with Upton Park.
