Built in the 15th century near Hailsham, the structure has been expertly restored and today it functions as a study centre. Hastings castle is a keep and bailey ruin located on the coast just outside town. Built by William the Conqueror and his Normans almost immediately after landing on the south coast of England, it was home to the Norman king for many years. The building of this castle is depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry.
