Yes, they have pretty much the most Ronseal name imaginable – they’re based in Clapham and they deal in flowers – but that name makes a strange sort of sense for the team behind Clapham Flowers. Their proudly definitive name fits because the building they occupy in the leafy southwest London district has been a florist in one form or another now for over 100 years. We talk a lot about the fleeting beauty of cut flowers, but Lordy if anything hits home just how enduring the allure of a beautiful bouquet is, it’s that little tidbit of trivia.
Anyway, Clapham Flowers in its current iteration has been around for eight years, a family run business that, in their own words, “harnesses passion and creativity through flowers.” The current custodian, Aimee, fell for the craft while studying at college in the week and helping her father out on Saturday mornings. “I enjoyed floristry so much I carried on full time after I finished studying!”
Like that matter-of-fact name, Aimee is to the point when asked why she thinks flowers make such great gifts. “They bring happiness and joy to people,” she says, simply. There is nothing simple about the bouquets that Aimee and her team create however, and a particular highlight came when working with Vivienne Westwood – a chance to truly let loose creatively.
