A settlement in the London Borough of Hillingdon, there is little recorded about Yiewsley until the late 18th century.
Brick making and agriculture were the primary industries in Yiewsley during the 18th and 19th centuries, with the economical growth attached to both leading to a surge in population. Wondering how many bricks were made each year? Of course you are. The answer is five million, which were moulded and fired in the Hillingdon Brickfields, prior to being transported by canal to a yard near South Wharf Basin in Paddington. The arrival of the Great Western Railway, and the building of West Drayton railway station in 1838 resulted in new houses being built, and another sharp increase in trade and population. In April 2018, the area became known to the wider public after a fairground ride malfunction left a woman in critical condition, having been on the ride with her daughter.
