An area of North London, and located in the London Borough of Haringey, West Green is an inner-suburban area which is largely residential.
Encompassing both Chestnuts and Downshills parks, West Green has its area defined by Downhills Park in the north, and Cranleigh and Stanley Road in the to the south. The area was historically a small village, with first settlement recorded in 1393. At the beginning of the 17th century, the eight buildings that stood in West Green formed the only hamlet in the central area of Tottenham - by 1840 the size had doubled. Development continued at a steady rate until the 1870s, when the introduction of the Tottenham & Hampstead Railway in 1878 saw the popularity soar, before levelling out in the 20th century.
