Located on the banks of the River Tyne opposite Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the town of Gateshead is a key cultural centre within north east England.

Perhaps the most iconic of the seven bridges connecting Gateshead and Newcastle, the Gateshead Millennium bridge has become a symbol of the connection between the two cities as well as of the development of each following the initial struggles of the post-industrial era.

The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is the jewel in Gateshead’s Cultural Crown. Housed in a former mill, this vast arts space features exhibitions from contemporary artists from across the north east and further afield.
