The town of Bearsden started as a Roman Fort, a formidable building and part of the Antonine Wall that runs through Scotland. It was then used as a Roman burial site and bath house, a strange combination, but one that gave the town its unusual name. The author if the popular Gruffalo books for children, Julia Donaldson, lived in Bearsden, and sculptures of her works have been placed in the local woodland in her memory.
