Craspedia come from the genus of daisies and have a whole host of common names that sound less like flowers and more like your favourite rag-tag characters from a British comic strip circa 1950: Billy Button, Woolyhead and, erm, Billy Balls.

Native to Australia and New Zealand, its head is made up of loads of small florets usually yellow in colour. They’re loved by florists for their versatility, heads bobbing about quite contentedly atop both wedding bouquets and table centrepieces. They’re also a great flower for keeping after your bouquet has lost some of its lustre – just hang them upside down and leave them to dry out.

Craspedia are said to symbolise good health, quite fitting for one of the perkiest, brightest blooms about at this time of year.
