You know you’re in the company of botanical royalty when your florist can say that the late actor Robin Williams was a fan of their store. New York’s Blooming Affairs can say exactly that. Describing themselves as a “new-fashioned flower shop”, Sam Abulawi’s florist is located on Broadway, nestled between 21st and 22nd street in the Flatiron district of Manhattan, and has been delivering lovingly-crafted bouquets locally for over 18 years. Although Blooming Affairs’ history surpasses this – it’s a venture inspired by the flower ship that Abulawi’s parents ran in Manhattan back in the 1950s. Such rich heritage shines through in each of Blooming Affairs’ unique bouquets. Describing their approach as “eclectic and organic”, the Blooming Affairs team “allow flowers to do what they do best: bring beauty into our lives”.
It’s an ethos that extends across all areas of the business – from the collaborative floral arrangements that Blooming Affairs regularly craft for weddings and events, to the flower arranging workshops and classes that they host throughout the year. “Creating exceptional events that tantalise all of your senses is our specialty. Celebrating the earth and what comes from it is something we do with love and style.” As for Abulawi’s favourite stem, it’s the dahlia, “because they’re very classy” – we couldn’t agree more.
