Located in East Arlington, Derby Farm Flowers & Gardens delivers naturally beautiful hand-tied bouquets, gifts and a curated editor of home and garden pieces to the people of Boston. Founded by Barbara Popolow, who describes Derby Farm Flowers & Gardens as a "local gem" that remains peacefully under the radar, it was via landscape gardening that Barbara entered the world of floristry. When a neighbour was selling a shop nearby, Barbara embraced the opportunity to open her own garden design studio – she hasn't looked back since.
Sourcing her stems from Boston's flower markets, and local growers like Five Fork Farm, Barbara explains that she loves looking for, and designing with, "quirky flowers with personality". "Personally, I'm more of a spontaneous designer," she explains before describing her floristry style as "garden inspired, seasonally informed, natural, earthy, and fun".
If Barbara were a flower, she'd be a butterfly weed because they're "native, hardy, bright, playful and adaptable and appreciated as food for butterflies and bees – so it has most of the characteristics I appreciate in life!"
