Located in the North of England in Urmston, Manchester, ixia Flowers was born from the belief that “beautiful, fresh, different flowers should be readily available to everyone” – a sentiment we wholly agree with here at Floom. “Flowers are good for the soul. They say things we can’t,” explains ixia’s founder Geraldine Smyth when asked why she thinks flowers make for such a good gift.
Aside from ensuring they provide people nationwide with striking stems, ixia prides itself on introducing its customers to “blooms, textures and combinations”, that “excite and inspire”. With that in mind, the team of florists at ixia base their hand-tied designs on three key themes – ixia Brights (featuring seasonal stems), ixia Whites (focussing on a timeless monochromatic colourway and unusual foliage) and ixia Mix (a more informal tie) – and they work on everything from large scale events and bespoke bouquets in collaboration with customers, to the smallest button holes for those special events. “Along the way we all pitch in, put the kettle on, and get our hands dirty,” explains Geraldine. That’s a fact that rings true for ixia’s most recent accomplishment – winning a silver medal for their ‘Floral Royalty’ exhibit at the RHS Tatton Flower Show 2018. “It was a really special feeling and we were all on cloud 9!”
